Book recommendations // Što čitati? #2

My last book recommendations blog post was a bit long, so today I'm going to try and keep it short.

After finishing The Truth about Melody Browne, I started reading Final Girls by Riley Sager and finished it while I was on my vacation. It's actually a really good beach read. Then I've read In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware. I gave both books four stars on Goodreads. They were good, I'm not sorry that I've read them, but they didn't leave me speechless. Quincy is the main character in Final Girls, she survived a massacre and became known as a final girl, just like Lisa and Samantha who have also survived a massacre. Quincy finds out that Lisa committed a suicide which turns out to be a homicide and Quincy's life turns upside down. Nora, the main character in the book In a Dark, Dark Wood, goes to a hen party of her friend Claire who she hasn't seen in ten years. Something of course goes wrong and Nora wakes up in hospital with amnesia trying to remember what happened.

Turtles All the Way Down is a book by John Green. It is a young adult novel but I believe that everyone can read it. It is not cheesy and it deals with an important topic. Aza, the main character, has panic attacks and OCD. Lately, mental health has become a frequent topic and this book portrays the problems that a person with mental illness deals with very well. It is not easy for Aza and it is not easy for us readers while we read about her daily struggles. However, John Green has made it possible for everyone to experience Aza's pain and get an insight into the life of such a person.

My favourite book in this post is This Is Going to Hurt by Adam Kay. This book is amazing. Although Adam is not a doctor anymore, he published his diary with a couple of changes. I'm not into medicine but Adam Kay is such a talent and I highly recommend this book. He explains the medical terms in the footnotes, his humour is brilliant, to keep it short it's an A+ from me. He points out the problems in the health system and mentions something that is a universal problem - that those in power have no idea how it is to actually work in the system and I totally agree with that. Every worker, no matter in which system they work in, deserves to be appreciated and respected.
